Youth Health Councils

Youth Health Council (YHCS) are groups of young people who are passionate about youth health. They work together to identify, discuss and take action on health needs affecting young people.

Youth Health Councils address a wide range of issues; mental wellbeing, bullying, fitness and exercise, healthy eating and nutrition, peer pressure, stress, relationships, service gaps, youth rights and much more.

What are Youth Health Councils?

Youth Health Councils are a coordinated body of young people (typically between 12 – 24 years old) that identify and discuss key Youth Health needs, create resources and ensure health information, services and programs are relevant, responsive, and accessible to young people.  They also provide young people with real opportunities to become actively involved in advising policies and policy makers so that they have their voices heard on decisions that affect their wellbeing.  Youth Health Councils are strengths based and focus on positive and healthy environments, connections and services which nurture and further enhance the wellbeing
of youth.

Youth Health Councils may address a wide range of issues; fitness and exercise, healthy eating and nutrition, peer pressure, stress, relationships, service gaps, youth rights and much more!
