Stand Up! Programme

The Stand Up! Programme

The Stand Up! Programme is a Youth Development Programme that Youthline runs in 3 secondary schools and 6 Alternative Education courses in Counties Manukau for young people whose lives are influenced by alcohol and other drugs.

It aims to:

-          Build each young person’s resiliency and connection to their whanau, school and communities

-          Empower young people to be proud of who they are and progressively evaluate their progress, areas of strength and next areas of development

-          Empower young people to reduce the impact of substance use in their life.

Being in the Stand Up! Programme means that the young person will have access to tailored support to a combination of one-to-one counseling, group activities and peer support.

Who Facilitates the Stand Up! Programme?

Your school will have a minimum of two Youth Practitioners who have experience in alcohol and other drugs, youth development, counseling and mental health.  The practitioners work in partnership with the school pastoral care team to support students.

When will Stand Up! Occur?

Each school/alternative education receives support one day a week for one-four hours depending on the level of need and availability of students.

Referrals of Young People?

Young People can be referred to meet with the Stand Up! Team in many different ways.

  • Young People Refer Themselves – this is the most popular referral pathway
  • Being Encouraged by others – sometimes friends, whanau and school refer young people
  • Board of Trustees Referral – Requirement for the Board of Trustees
